Schoolchildren Looking From the Top of Notre-Dame Cathedral at the Seine River, Paris

With film photography it is very difficult to have as much control in the lighting and what ends up in focus. This photograph came out so well with everything in focus except for the hazy buildings in the distance, which gives the viewer a sense of also being there and looking out over Paris. Looking at Bressons’ other photography I have noticed very strong framing used and this is no exception. He uses rule of thirds and the elements around him to create interest but also symmetry with the centered couple at the bottom of the frame as well as the school children in uniforms to create points of focus. These elements make the photograph have an atmosphere that is a goal in my digital photography and can be replicated since it can be harder to make digital photography as interesting in my opinion because it is always so clear and bright (which is great especially for other kinds of photography) however with this subject matter the framing, artistic approach and subjects elevate a pretty view in an iconic spot to something more interesting.
