Blog Post #25

I think W. Eugene Smith is a great photographer who paid a lot for the realism of photography. In order to take this photo, he lived with the victim of Minamata disease for three years and got injured in a march. He used both his artworks and actions to help the victims and show the government and the world how serious this disease was. In this photograph, Eugene showed the horrible influence of the Minamata disease on Tomoko’s body and mind in a cruel and direct way. He successfully evoked the public attention to this disease and the victims through this photo.
