SebastiĆ£o Salgado, Rwandan refugee camp of Benako, Tanzania, 1994
This photo almost looks fake. The contrast is amazing and the subject matter tells a story. There is a lot of information in the photo but it leads your eye around the photo starting with the person with the baby on their lap in the foreground. It seems that all of his pictures are fantastic at telling a story and each one really draws you in and makes you contemplate and reflect on the subject matter.
Robert Capa, CHINA. 1938. Hankow. Children play in the snow during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
Contrast is again used in this photo by Robert Capa but instead of increasing the contrast on the photo as a whole, it utilizes the negative space of the snow.
Capa’s photos always tell a story because he was adamant about always getting close to his subjects, even when it put his own life at risk. This set him apart from other documentary photographers. He is best known for his pictures of war and conflict.
