“USA. Washington, D.C. August 28, 1963. Crowds pack the National Mall during the March on Washington.”

This photo caught my eye because of its unique angles and usage of negative space. The photo captures the 1963 March on Washington. What os interesting to me is that the reflection pool takes up a large portion of the photo. At first, I thought it was just an interesting composure but on second glance I realized that the Washington Monument is reflected in the reflecting pool. I think that is interesting because Washington was vocal about ending slavery. I’m not sure if that was the intention behind the shot but regardless, it gives the image more meaning.

It also captures an incredible amount of people packed into one space. Even with the interesting compositional choice, it is clear just how many people showed up for this march.
