This piece is rightfully controversial being that its name is quite literally, “Piss Christ.” This is an image created by Andres Serrano supposedly using his own urine. It is controversial because religious people view it as a defamation of Christ. However, viewers can find another, less offensive way to look at this piece. “Piss Christ” can be compared to other religious artworks that are not deemed offensive. Lots of religious art depicts bodily fluid. Of course, it is usually blood but an argument can be made that urine is just another bodily fluid and is not offensive at all.
