Civil Rights Photography

The emotion and pain captured by Charles Moore in 1963 is eerily reminiscent of the same feelings from this summer and even still. Using a picture to tell a thousand words, Moore highlights the violence and suffering of racism and segregation. Taken during a Birmingham Alabama summer filled with mounting tension between police and Civil Rights protestors, Charles Moore captures the police dog ripping the pant leg off a peaceful citizen. The scene feels all too familiar and makes me wonder if we can ever live in an equitable and just nation.
