This photograph, USA. Washington, D.C. August 28, 1963. Crowds pack the National Mall during the March on Washington shot by Bruce Davidson, truly captures a moment in time during the civil rights movement. As the title of this photograph states, this is an image of the March on Washington, which was a massive protest march that occurred in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. This particular photo really showcases just how many people participated in this march (over 250,000). It also does a great job at representing the unification of American citizens at this time. The grayscale, focus, and composition contribute to making this a successful and powerful image. Seeing so many people, but still being able to identify faces in the foreground make this piece even more personal to those educated or those who lived through this time.
