Erika Stone. Mother and Child, Mexico, 1970 ,Gelatin silver print

This photograph from the photographer, Erika Stone, stood out to me the most amongst the rest because of how abstract it is. I feel like most street photography pictures have a lot of detail, buildings, etc. However, this picture is very minimalist. Photographed above is a mother and her child outside. Due to the high contrast in this photo the two people don’t have a lot of detail because Erika wants you to focus on their figure. You can still see that they are both wearing dresses with their hair tied back indicating warm weather. Judging by how bright the sunlight reflects off of the pavement and the direction of their shadows, you can tell that the sun is beaming down on them at an angle. Your eyes are really drawn to the darkness of the shadows in this picture. Also, the contrast between the direction of the lines on the pavement and the thick black like is what caught my eye first and made this an interesting piece.
