Motion of Light in Water - Lehigh University Art Galleries, Trisha

Motion slide #7

Garry Winogrand, Untitled (Fountain in Central Park), 1970

The photographer Garry Winogrand captured this moment at a big fountain in Central Park where you can see a lot of people having a good time. Even though the photo is in black and white you can still get a good sense of the vibes, what time of day it is, and how full of life this moment is. Judging by the way the sunlight sparkles off of the fountain water, you can tell that is probably mid day with the sun directly above and shining down with a clear sky. The ripples in the water created by the people playing in it, is captured crisply as if it were frozen in time. Also the water drops that are falling from the top of the fountain seem to be frozen in time with no motion blur. The picture seems to be toned using a warm grey scale.
