I took my shots along Broad Street in downtown Redbank, NJ. The street is blocked off so restaurants can operate with outdoor dining. Wearing a mask outside is not enforced, but it is recommended. My subjects all wear masks. I shot all of my images with my 70-200mm lens in manual mode.
I love the way I cropped this photo. I think it puts extra emphasis on the boys instead of the parents. My choice in colorizing the boys also is an effect on emphasis.
I was originally going to keep everything in the photo in color, but the man’s red and yellow mask was the most eye catching element of the composition, so I fine tuned the color of the mask and reduced the saturation of everything else. The woman’s mask was black and it didn’t give me the same effect when I colorized it, so I decided to keep hers black and white as well.
I have a slight issue with this photo. I edited it somewhat out of order and was having a very hard time removing the blue fringe around the red sweater. I ended up not removing it in the end because I couldn’t figure out a way that made it look seamless. Overall its not horrible; its just not what I wanted ideally as a final shot.
