This photo was taken by Terry Ratcliff in Austin, Texas. It was shot in 2007. I chose this photo because I thought the composition was very interesting and unique. I have never seen a photo of a firework as it goes from exploding to fading. I think that the ability to capture this transition is a strength in itself. Some more strengths that I noticed were the use of bright color, the contrast between dark and light, and the clarity of the image. The red color lets the audience focus on the explosion of the firework. Also, the specific color red gives the firework a powerful feeling which draws the viewer into the photograph even more. Furthermore, I think that this photo was processed very well due to the fact that the image is so clear. The viewer can see the individual strands from of the firework and its reflection as it casts onto the body of water below it. This also adds to the composition of the photo as it gives it another interesting component to look at. Lastly, the use of a contrast between darker parts of the photo, for example the dark water, and the light and bright firework is another strength because it allows the audience to really focus on the firework.
