Artist: Leonard Freed 1979 Title: Female Police Officer, New York City
This image of an NYPD female police officer was captured by Leonard Freed. The female officer is in the center of the frame and the only person in focus letting the viewer know that she is the subject. She is shown in full uniform and her NYPD patch on her jacket is pushed against the picture plane. She is surrounded by figures that appear to be male and she gently smiles looking away from the photographer. The use of black and white in this image causes the male figures in the background to be even less in focus and more distorted and pushes the focus onto the female officer effectively.
