Blog Post #9b: Motion Blur

What is this post?: List techniques to try to avoid having too much light when you have long shutter speeds.

Motion Blur Photography: The Ultimate Guide (+ Tips)

  1. Small Apertures

When you change the size of the hole that the light comes through on your camera is called adjusting you camera’s aperture! This changes the amount of lights allowed into your camera to create the image.

shutter priority mode: the camera will automatically change the aperture for you

manual mode: you need to change the aperture yourself

Shutter speed and aperture settings are organized in ‘stops’.

-decrease shutter speed by a ‘stop’ = double the amount of time the shutter is open

-decrease the Aperture by one stop= decrease the size of the shutter opening by 50%

2. Decrease IOS

-adjust the ISO setting of your camera.

A higher number = more sensitive to light

A lower number = sensor less sensitive

3. Try a neutral density filter

filters = cut down the light passing through lens and into camera which then allows one to use a slower shutter speed.
