Some techniques to avoid having too much light when you have long shutter speeds are… 1. Smaller aperture… this makes the hole that light can get through smaller. 2. Decreasing ISO… the lower number makes the image sensor less sensitive to light. 3. Trying a Neutral Density Filter… this limits the light passing through your lens and into the camera. 4. Slow Sync Flash- combines longer shutter speed with flash so some elements are frozen and some are blurry. 5. Panning… moving your camera with the motion so your subject is in sharp focus and the background is blurry.
