The Motion of Light in Water

Artist: William Edward Dassonville Title: Close View of Fountains at San Francisco Golden Gate I International Exposition, Treasure Island Date: 1930-1940 Location: San Francisco

The motion of the water in this image is frozen in time. It almost appears that the water pouring out of the fountain is frozen ice. Some portions of the water are blurred to suggest movement but overall the water appears to be stopped and frozen. The fountain is off center to the left of the image. The top portion of the fountain create an element of long vertical lines that are complimented by the horizontal lines in the layers of the fountain. The decoration of the lion is proudly placed in the foreground of the image and is in focus and clear. Another fountain sits in the background following the same design of the one in the center of the image.
