Labor Day

https://labs.theguardian.com/unicef-child-labour/

Although Unicef is a bigger company and is not super clear about who the photographers where for these images, I really liked the layout of the webpage and the photos themselves are powerful. The article starts with a repeating video header of sweaters with the label ‘Made by Children’ and hands moving quickly to grab them out of the frame. I thought that this was a very effective design idea to catch the attention of the reader in a very simple way. The rest of the photos are bright and clear with the child looking directly at the camera making the person on the other side feel the humanity and expression of the child and the guilt that quickly follows. My favorite is a little girl in a cotton field wearing a pink coat and beanie that with arms full of cotton and looking off with a hardened expression. The expanse behind her gives a sense of the enormity of how much work is ahead of and expected of her.
