I chose Mitra Tabrizian who’s photograph was taken in Tehran in 2006. This photograph, Tehran 2006, is said to be the “most masterful of her works.” In this image, there is a very clear example of composition underscoring content. The artist has a fascination and interest in the Islamic religion, culture, and society, which shows in many of her photographs, this one in particular. The image is composed of two opposite sides; one side of men in business suits and the other of completely covered woman, some with children as well. It portrays social upheaval, displacement, and isolation as well. The composition really underlines the meaning behind it, which is an example of great work! It was also taken as a panoramic image, which enhanced the meaning as well because it seems like by looking at it at that angle and depth, we see more of the society that she is trying to capture.
