The attached photograph was taken by the American photographer, Ansel Easton Adams. It was taken in San Dunes, Oceano, California in 1950, but printed in 1978. One strength of this composition is the detail of the texture. It shows very clearly the creases in the san dune and even shows the little grains of sand. The texture is very defined and contributes greatly to the photo because without that definition, it wouldn’t be a very good photograph. Another strength of the composition is it’s depth of field. The main focal point of the image seems to be the closest point to the photographer but there’s also a beautiful contrast between the front san dune and the ones in the back. That is where the lighting portion comes in as well. The back portion of the image is a lot darker than the front!
