Mitra Tabizian’s shot, Tehran 2006 is a remarkably stunning and provocative picture. The wide angle, panoramic shot allows the viewer to have an in depth view of the environment and surrounding area. In the environment there are a few high rises with a large billboard of Iran’s two revolutionary leaders, surrounded by not much else.
The juxtaposition of the landscape and the billboard holds even more importance when reading more about the context of the shot and Iran during the time period. While the Supreme Leaders have boasted about development and success of the country, this picture makes it abundantly clear that the claims do not match up with much of Iranian life. There is hardly any infrastructure, or presence of government support shown in this picture. Tabizian uses her camera to poignantly convey the reality of war and corruption that plague her home country.
How are people arranged? What is the purpose of the car? This is a good analysis of the content and composotion.
