This photograph titled Pepper No. 35, taken by Edward Weston is a great example of how lighting can affect the perception of an image. The image is a single pepper that looks like its been warped in some kind of a cup or bowl. Without these highlights and shadows on the pepper, the viewer would not be able to differentiate its hills and groves. The highlights also create the necessary effect of shininess on the side of the pepper. The composition of this photo, although it’s very minimal, is very well thought out from the position and angle of the pepper to the perfectly sized cup that allows the viewer to see just enough to interpret it as a cup.
