Alfred Stieglitz – Film

Old and New New York, 1910

Shot in 1910, the image above shows a street corner of New York City. What look to be stone buildings that range from two to six stories take up the middle-ground of the photograph, while in the background metal scaffolding and the skeleton of a much taller building is visible. People can be seen walking around the foreground on the sidewalk. The contrast between the short, complete buildings and the massive skeleton in the background makes for a really interesting image that hints to what the future holds. The grain and feel of the image is really intriguing as well, adding more substance to the shot, and in my opinion that is what makes film still desirable as a medium for photography today, even to a digital artist.
