Civil Rights Photography

Charles Moore, Montgomery, Alabama, 1958

This photograph is of Dr. Martin Luther King at the police station while he is being arrested. His wife is to the right looking on at what is occurring. This photo is so effective because of the angle in which it was shot. The facial expressions of him and his wife give us a glimpse of fear that they were living in and the fight they had to give every day to be heard. Everyone in the photograph is white except Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife. This adds to the image because it shows the constant battles they faced in regards to race.
