HDR Example

Devil Hotel, 2008

P., Valerio. Devil Hotel. 2008. 35 Fantastic HDR Images. 7 Oct. 2020. https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/03/35-fantastic-hdr-pictures/

This image really stood out to me while scrolling through the list of HDR examples. It shows a hotel under gorgeous lighting, with pink/ orangish clouds looming above in a deep blue sky. Although it is obviously edited, it isn’t as heavily edited as other examples in the list, which I really like. The left side of the building almost glows as it is directly facing the sun, and it looks very warm. The right side of the building is still very well light with the HDR technique, but it can still be seen that it is the shaded side. The windows reflect the sky beautifully, holding the same colors in great detail. The composition is also really interesting, as the building is shot at its corner and is nearly perfectly symmetrical. The clouds on the sky are mainly on the right side along with the shaded part of the building, and the contrast between the brighter left side and the more ominous dark right side is a very cool effect.
