Photoshop Tutorial – Moody

Summary: On a new layer of the image, adjust the vibrance of the image by decreasing the saturation slider, taking away some of the brighter and happier colors. Then add the gradient effect to the image, making it from black to white, changing the style to radial. Having the black be on the outside creates a darker ring on the outside of the image. On another adjustment layer add a gradient map adjustment, check the box to put it in reverse, and change the blend mode to soft light. Then decrease the opacity of this layer. Add a second gradient map, and change the darker color on the left of the two color slider to dark blue, and the lighter color on the right to a yellow/ orange color (this depends on the skin color in the image, so make the yellow/orange color lighter/darker to add or take away skin color). Again, change the blend mode to soft light and decrease the opacity. Create another adjustment layer for curves, select the dark tones on the histogram, and move it up the y axis so you get slightly less contrast. Slide the mid-tones down on the histogram, and move the light tones slightly left. Change the histogram color to both red and blue, and slightly increase the dark tones by moving it up. Create a new adjustment layer for exposure and drag the gamma correction slider slightly down, and then on another new layer select levels. Make the dark tones darker by selecting the slider on the left side of the histogram and moving it right slightly. If you feel like the first gradient effect you added to the image is making the sides too dark, change the blend mode to soft light.
