New York 51

This image titled New York 51 was taken by Aaron Siskind in 1988 in New York. The photo is a close up of what seems to be the reminisce of papers tacked up on a wall.  There are a few lines in the lower left corner that seem to suggest it is a brick wall, but there is no further context of the background or rest of the setting.  These lines also stop halfway through the photo, creating a separation, with one side of the wall having lines and the other a smooth surface.  The papers are old and tattered as they curl up at the edges and are falling off of the wall in certain places.  The separation of the papers from the wall creates a few stark shadows that contrast with the lighter parts of the papers underneath and the wall behind it.  On one of the larger scraps of papers has a picture on it that contains a few people that seem to be posing and underneath the photo of them are two bold numbers, “14-17” the rest of the text on the sheet is missing as the bottom is torn off.  The rest of the papers are blank and overlapped, curling, and folding over each other creating a very intricate texture with lots of shadows.
